Subject: bibtex
I've recently installed a full tex/mf package, including bibtex, on an
HP 735 running HPUX 9.01. I did not change the default paths, and
everything is now installed in /usr/local/lib/texmf and below.
Everything I've tried works correctly, except that bibtex can't find
the .bst files, which are in /usr/local/lib/texmf/bibtex/bst, as they
should be. If I set the BSTINPUTS environment variable to this path,
then bibtex runs correctly, but I don't see why I should have to do
this. I've tried exploring path variables in the source code, but
it's so convoluted for an outsider that I can't tell whether the
source is right or not.
